Well, not in hindsight. You say he was always going to be injured but, let's be totally honest, we knew there was a good chance of that but you never really knew. It had the potential to be a very shrewd signing. Even some of my Gooner and Spurs fans said it could be a goof signing....."If he stays fit".

And that was the gamble.

I fully agree with everyone that says the wages and length of contract are the part that was totally wrong. Bloody stupid if you ask me.

It not like we have not bought/signed from the Championship at all.

Byram
Fredericks
Hugill
Martin

Going back

Antonio
Cresswell

It is easy to pick out ones that have worked out especially well in hindsight.

You didn't need hindsight to sniff this one out...plenty of us knew what was coming...

Crystal falace

Players from championship recently.

Maddison 20 mill

Daniel James 15 mill

Harry Wilson - Liverpool would of sold for 25 now on loan at Bournemouth.

All 3 of them would walk into our 11.

Instead we spent 24 million or Fornals.

All I am saying is we should be looking closer to home but young english players from the lower leagues are often over looked especially by MP.

Holland must be wondering how bad the team has to get before he gets a chance.

Re: Wilshere Off... MLS...???
Chelsea also spent a fortune on their youth team for years and years, they won the youth cup every other year at least.

dealcanvey 11:48 Fri Nov 15
Re: Wilshere Off... MLS...???
We should take note from Chelsea.

For years they have spent millions on players. Buying players like drinkwater just to complete their homegrown quota.

Transfer ban has come in. Now they have young british talent that did well in the championship looking brilliant in the Premier League. Mount, Abraham, James, Tomori etc.

It's a direction i would like to see us head in.

dealcanvey 11:45 Fri Nov 15
Re: Wilshere Off... MLS...???
I would honestly rather keep Wilshere than get rid and bring in some cheap foreign import that MP rates.

If he goes that is all we would get in return. To hope for anything else would be dreaming.

On that basis and with lanzini injured, I would keep him until end of the season.

C&H says a lot of things, mostly nonsense.

Big Dawg 11:35 Fri Nov 15
Re: Wilshere Off... MLS...???
C&H said the G&S only wanted to give him 1 year contact, but Pellegrini insisted on a 3 year deal!

As other posters have eluded to - we always miss out on decent players that we dont want to pay the wages for and pay shitty players like hughill or sick notes a lot of money!

dealcanvey 11:28 Fri Nov 15
Re: Wilshere Off... MLS...???
is it bad that he has looked better than Lanzini when he has played?

El Scorchio 11:26 Fri Nov 15
Re: Wilshere Off... MLS...???
Terrible signing in hindsight. Rarely on the pitch, and doesn't offer much at all when he is.

Re: Wilshere Off... MLS...???
It's baffling really that three such tight-fisted people have done this. I was really optimistic that he might be over the worst of it - as someone said, he'd actually played quite a lot the season before - but it seems not. And he trained hard through the Summer as well, which made me optimistic this year.

As for saying that he's finished at this level, I'm not sure how he's not finished at every level. They still tackle in the MLS - it's just as physical, which surely means he won't be able to take it. If he can't be fit in the PL, he won't be fit anywhere.

It's a real shame as he's a cracking player.

He'll get shot dead outside some primary school over there in his first month

southbankbornnbred 11:02 Fri Nov 15
Re: Wilshere Off... MLS...???
What is annoying about it is how inevitable it has all been.

He seems like an alright bloke. But he's never going to be much of a player for us, because he is never fully fit. And that was the case when he joined.

southbankbornnbred 11:00 Fri Nov 15
Re: Wilshere Off... MLS...???
I'm really not sure he's up to the physical demands of modern football in any competitive league.

His body has broken down over and over again. His ankles must be a mess.

I just get the impression that, like Carroll, he's had so many injuries now - and so much surgery - that he is structurally weak and will continue to break down regardless of where he goes. There are only so many times you can go under the knife and do major rehab before your body stops healing properly.

eusebiovic 10:50 Fri Nov 15
Re: Wilshere Off... MLS...???
He can't do this league anymore...that is for sure

I don't blame Pell or Husillos for this one because the deal was already done and they were obliged to accept it

southbankbornnbred 10:50 Fri Nov 15
Re: Wilshere Off... MLS...???
Yep, bang on.

They talk a good game - and then you see what they deliver and you realise that it's all just words and never action.

The only time they ever really delivered a major project at West Ham was the stadium - and many people didn't want it, for obvious reasons. That was all about increasing the total value of the club and its marketing potential - so that they can all cash in when they sell.

Which, from what I'm picking up from a number of well-placed people, could be in the next couple of years.

Takashi Miike 10:43 Fri Nov 15
Re: Wilshere Off... MLS...???
those three have perfected the model of handing out ridiculous contracts to players on the downturn. that's another reason why there's not more money available for buys. ALL down to them

southbankbornnbred 10:31 Fri Nov 15
Re: Wilshere Off... MLS...???
We should have offered him a 'pay as you play' deal - with a minimal basic salary and a big chunk of cash on a weekly basis if he is fit and available.

That way, we would not be throwing money down the drain each week.

These salaries matter now, under FFP rules, because they restrict our ability to borrow and/or invest in other wages. So every pound counts - even in this cash-rich league.

southbankbornnbred 10:27 Fri Nov 15
Re: Wilshere Off... MLS...???
TM: haha!

I get what you're saying - although I don't think he's a cunt. He seems like an alright bloke, as far as modern footballers are concerned. I don't have a problem with him as a person. But he should never, in a million years, have been given a three-year deal on close to 100k a week at West Ham.

No other team would touch him with a barge pole. Why did we? Because the people in charge don't know what they are doing when it comes to the transfer market.

He bit our hands off for that offer - and I don't blame him one bit. But he has been the inevitable disaster we all knew he would be.

Takashi Miike 10:23 Fri Nov 15
Re: Wilshere Off... MLS...???
clearly the MLS hasn't watched the cunt during the last few years
